The djembe is only played by hand. It can be played either seated, or standing with a strap..

Unless you are an advanced player who truly practiced regularly on the Djembe for at least 10 years, you may not hear the sound quality difference between our Pro-Djembe and our “Limited series” Djembe, simply because your hand playing technique may still not allow you to unleash the full potential of the Djembe
tones and slaps (notes played on the edge of the Djembe).

Most of them have a short skin rim or a twist surrounding the head (If you don't like the skin rim, it can be removed). Our Djembes are put together to allow easy fine tuning.
The djembe originated among the ancestors of the Malinke, Soussou, Baga and Peul people of Guinea and Mali, but is now found in most African countries..
It is traditionally played to accompany dances.

There are a wide variety of Djembe-like drums on the market that are sold as Djembes.
Djembe look-alike drums are sometimes more expensive than Djembes because of the cost of materials used to make them look like authentic handmade West African Djembes.
The Djembe is an over 1000 years old musical instrument originated in West Africa, specifically the region of Guinea and Mali of today. Recently, neighboring countries have also started to produce and play this phenomenal instrument. Now, the entire African continent has embraced the instrument. Eventually, imitators other countries in the world started attempting to built and mass produce the Djembe without fully understanding its manufacturing process (mainly Indonesia...North America...etc).
As you can imagine, none of these countries will ever match the expertise developed over 800 years of building and perfecting the instrument in the Guinea and Mali area.
