All our Djembes are mounted with professional non-stretching re-enforced rope (Kevlar), as well as a total of 3 iron hoops, regardless of the size or model.
Each carving model shown on this page, is available in different wood.
Most of them have a short skin rim or twist surrounding the head. They are put together to allow easy fine tuning.
The djembe originated among the ancestors of the Malinke, Soussou, Baga and Peul people of Guinea and Mali, but is now found in most African countries.
All Djembes on this page are authentic pieces imported directly from Guinea-Conakry West Africa.
The craftsmen who create them are descended from families who have produced the same artifacts from generations. They have mastered the techniques of selecting materials and building instruments through the years. Hear for yourself the unique sound that first echoed through Africa and now the world
There are a wide variety of Djembe-like drums on the market that are sold as Djembes.
Djembe look-alike drums are sometimes more expensive than Djembes because of the cost of materials used to make them look like authentic handmade West African Djembes.
The Djembe is an over 1000 years old musical instrument originated in West Africa, specifically the region of Guinea and Mali of today. Recently, neighboring countries have also started to produce and play this phenomenal instrument. Now, the entire African continent has embraced the instrument. Eventually, imitators other countries in the world started attempting to built and mass produce the Djembe without fully understanding its manufacturing process (mainly Indonesia...North America...etc).
As you can imagine, none of these countries will ever match the expertise developed over 800 years of building and perfecting the instrument in the Guinea and Mali area.
If you want a real Djembe, buy from someone who goes to the source and can prove it!
This doesn't necessarily mean paying more!

Despite the differences of weight, type of wood, or color,
top quality sound is what you will get from our authentic Djembes from Guinea.
Unless you are an advanced player who truly practiced regularly on the Djembe for at least 10 years, you may not hear the sound quality difference between our Pro-Djembe and our “Limited series” Djembe, simply because your hand playing technique may still not allow you to unleash the full potential of the Djembe
tones and slaps (notes played on the edge of the Djembe).
