Carved  out  of  a single piece of Guinean wood  (choice of Lingue, Bala, Mahogany or  Melina), it  is  the  most famous  African drum. Authentic Djembes are tunable (up or down) so you can get the pitch you like. The  top  part of our  Guinean djembes are  covered  with goatskin. It is the most sensitive part of your instrument, so it's a good idea to protect it with a Djembe cover and bag. Our professional craftsmen in Guinea are using non-stretching reinforced  rope (Kevlar), as well as a total of 3 iron hoops.

Our authentic Guinean Djembes, are built by professional craftsmen, for professional drummers. They are built  to allow  easy fine tuning. All  Djembes on this page  are  authentic instruments  from  Guinea West Africa. The  craftsmen  who  create  them  are descended   from   families  who   have produced the same artifacts for generations. They  have  mastered  the techniques of selecting  materials  and  building   quality instruments  through  the  years.

There are a wide variety of Djembe-like drums on the market that are sold as Djembes. Djembe look-alike drums are sometimes more expensive than Djembes because of the cost of materials used to make them look like authentic handmade West African Djembes.

The Djembe originated in West Africa, specifically the region of Guinea and Mali of today. Neighboring countries have also started to produce and play this phenomenal instrument, till  the entire African continent fully embraced it. Eventually, imitators other countries in the world started attempting to built and mass produce the Djembe without fully understanding its manufacturing process (mainly Indonesia and North America).
As you can imagine, none of these countries will ever match the expertise developed over so many generations of building and perfecting the instrument in the Guinea and Mali area.
